Research Help

Database Login Issues:

  • Ensure that the patron is attempting to access the database through the library’s website, rather than a bookmarked link or from a vendor website.
  • Internet browser options must be set to accept both COOKIES and POP-UPS. (If a new window asking for your library card barcode and PIN number does not open, you most likely have pop-ups disabled).
  • Try reducing the security level on your computer’s firewall to “medium.” Access to some of the databases may be blocked if the security level is set to “high.” (If you can get into a product, but it prompts you for an additional password, it is most likely a security issue).
  • If you are still having trouble accessing one of these databases, you may contact the library (941-748-5555 ext 6310) during normal business hours to check that our remote patron authentication process is operational. Since this requires us to contact support personnel outside the library system, it may take additional time to resolve.Password Help: The barcode and PIN numbers are required to access most of the electronic resources from outside of the library. The PIN is a four digit number. Patrons who don’t remember their PIN may want to try using the last four digits of their phone number or their year of birth, as those are numbers a lot of people choose. With an email address associated with their account, patrons can reset their PIN through the online catalog. Go to the catalog page at http://manatee.polarislibrary.com/, hover over My Account, and then click on Login/Register. This page provides a link to reset the PIN. If there is no email address associated with the account, patrons will need to come in to any of the Manatee County Libraries with picture identification so that the library can reset their PIN for them. We cannot send a PIN number through email or over the phone because it is used as a security measure.

Other Helpful Information

Wireless Policy: Wireless internet is available at all library libraries. Patrons should connect to the “Manatee County Public” network. No password is required.

Printing: Printing is available from the library’s public computers for $.10/page. Color printing and double-sided printing is not available. Wireless printing from a personal device is not available.

Faxing/Scanning: Faxing is available at no charge at all library locations. Scanning services are not available at this time.

Donations: Donated materials may be dropped off at any public library branch. The library system prefers recently published books, magazines, and audio visual materials in good condition. We reserve the right to dispose of, exchange, or sell any items deemed not appropriate for our collection. Presently, donations must be brought into a library facility as the library system does not have a vehicle or the staff to pick up large donations from homes or businesses. (Goodwill provides a pick up service). However, staff is available to assist in unloading donations that are brought in to one of the library’s facilities. Due to space considerations, it is recommended that very large donations be brought to the Central Library facility.

The library issues receipts and acknowledgments of donations if requested by the donor. The community has generously helped us to fill in gaps in the library’s collection with extra copies of bestsellers, classics, DVD movies, audio CDs, music CDs, and popular magazine titles. Funds from our book sales also help to extend the ability of the library to purchase additional materials. Thank you for considering a donation to the library system.

Meeting Rooms & Study Rooms: Meeting rooms are available at each of the library branches for use by both for profit and non-profit groups. Details and policies can be found here: https://www.mymanatee.org/departments/manatee_county_public_library_system/library_services/meeting_rooms

Rooms can be booked here: https://manateelibrary.libcal.com/spaces
